John Yost
Founder
Dana Benjamin
Photographer / Videographer - Owner
John began his career by going to Paris with $100 and a one-way ticket and convinced the American fashion and product photographer Art Kahn to bring him on as an assistant. Art’s clients included Dior, Phillips, Simca, Mobil, Polaroid, Smith Corona, Jour de France, Femme Practice, and others. He then freelanced in Paris 4 years working for, among others, Martini & Rossi, Fashion Week, Models International, and was in the Steve McQueen movie “24 Hours of Le Mans” as a news photographer.
John returned to the States and freelanced 4 years in Dallas shooting stills and motion for Las Colinas, Montgomery Ward, Beaird Poulin, National Severe Storms Laboratory, a successful $50 Million fund raising campaign for the President of Oklahoma University, Coca Cola, Dr Pepper, Phillips Petroleum, Miller Beer, and Pizza Inn among others.
Then, homesick, he went back to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He started Marble Street Studio, changing the DBA from John Yost Photographer, as a way to recognize the contribution of other talent to more and more complex assignments and long-term projects.
Throughout John’s career, he has stayed ahead of the curve moving early from film to digital. His understanding of his clients’ needs and his creative applications of cutting edge technology have kept the studio in the forefront of the industry for the past 30 years.
Dave McCollum
Lighting / Sound / Studio Manager / Drone Pilot
Born to and raised among a family of artists in Albuquerque, NM, Dana Benjamin fell in love with photography at an early age. She was introduced to the world of photography by being in front of the camera as a child model for After the Stork catalog, then working as an assistant/intern for Marble Street Studio.
She was a portrait photographer for over five years before deciding to take her passion to the next level of professionalism. Dana studied at the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls, MA, graduating in the top ten percent of her class in 2004. After returning to Albuquerque she worked as a freelance photographer, image re-toucher, and studio assistant, catering to all genres of the industry including architectural, advertising and marketing, commercial, events and portraiture.
Dana then moved to Seattle where she gained seven years of experience as a studio manager, digital production manager, producer and photographer for a large retail/e-commerce photography studio whose clients included Amazon, Chasing Fireflies, Costco, Eddie Bauer, Indian Motorcycle, Nordstrom, Microsoft, Saltaire, SanMar, Starbucks, Tommy Bahama and Union Bay.
Missing her roots and the sunshine, Dana moved back to Albuquerque in October 2013 and teamed up with Ashley Conner to do photography, videography, and graphic design. Dana has returned to Marble Street Studio and is enjoying the creative environment and new opportunities.
Ashley Conner
Creative Director - Owner
A west coast boy, Dave McCollum grew up in Lakeside, CA and Seattle, WA. He attended Evergreen State College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism.
Dave went on to work for numerous large-scale photography labs developing/processing film, printing, retouching and providing customer service. After years in this industry Dave moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he attended CNM and earned a degree as a film technician. Dave worked on productions such as Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Shotcaller, Better Call Saul (Behind the Scenes), Night Shift, Lazarus, and Lime Light.
Dave joined Marble Street Studio and works as the studio manager, managing sound and lighting. He pilots the photography drone, maintains the equipment and builds anything the team dreams up.
Born to artists, raised in an artistic community and making a career out of both digital and fine art, Ashley Conner has made art her life. Having mostly molding clay and paint to play with as a child in her father’s bronze foundry as well as at home, being creative was just a way of life.
Her love of art began at a young age and she continued on that path through art school in California, Arizona and New Mexico studying fine art as well as digital art. Once deciding to pursue digital art as a career, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design. During that time she participated in national marketing competitions and developed a sense of how to advertise on an international level.
She successfully ran her own graphic design/publishing company for 10 years. During that time she teamed up with John Yost and Dana Benjamin at Marble Street Studio doing graphic design, photography and videography and is studying to earn an MFA at the University of New Mexico.
